The New Year Johann Strauss Gala will be performed at the Pavilion in Weymouth on Saturday 6 January 2018. The show starts at 7:30pm and will entertain music lovers until the final curtain at 9:30pm. Audiences can expect beautiful renditions of the Overture to Die Fledermaus by J Strauss,  ‘Vedrai Carino’ from Don Giovanni by Mozart,’Musetta’s Waltz’ from La Boheme and ‘O Mio Babbino caro’ from Gianni Schicchi, both by Puccini.

Celebrate the New Year

Celebrate the New Year with an uplifting selection of waltzes, marches, polkas and arias by the King of Waltz, Johann Strauss and his contemporaries! The full symphonic forces of the BSO will be joined by outstanding soprano Rhian Lois to bring you an evening of stirring melodies to carry you away into the glamour and sparkle of the Viennese dance halls.

Johann Strauss

Johann Strauss was an Austrian composer of light music, particularly dance music and operettas. He composed over 500 waltzespolkasquadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet. In his lifetime, he was known as “The Waltz King”, and was largely  responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century.
