Many congratulations to B+B Weymouth, who last night won silver in the Dog Friendly Accommodation category at the Dorset Tourism Awards!

Now in its 4th year, this event had over 600 entries from across the South West, with finalists and winner announced at a celebration of local hospitality, hosted by the Tank Museum, Bovington.

The award was received by Michelle Robinson, General Manager of the B+B, and Helen Blower, Group Operations Manager of the B+B Collection.

Michelle said, “My colleagues and I have worked so hard this year to improve our overall welcome to human and canine guests alike. It is thrilling to be recognised for these efforts; truly it has been a team effort!”

The B+B Collection prides itself on the pet concierge experience offered in each property. New Regional Marketing Campaign for Weymouth

One of the main business objectives of the Weymouth BID is to attract more visitors to Weymouth out of season.  This week the first regional marketing campaign will take place in Southampton and Bristol targeting short break visitors to Weymouth during the Autumn and Winter months.

The campaign will feature a series of press features and advertisements, editorial, radio campaign with Heart FM, outdoor marketing featuring billboards and posters and an on line competition to win a two night break for two people in Weymouth staying at the B+B guest house on the Esplanade, dining at the Dining Room and choosing one of the three leisure activities available to the Winners. The lucky winners can choose either a photography course provided by local photographer Lara Jane Thorpe, a cookery course at the Dining Room provided by Taher Jibet or a cycling tour provided by Jurassic Cycle Trails.

A competition will run from 22 September where one lucky winner could WIN a 2 night stay for two in Weymouth including a candle lit dinner for 2 plus one of the following activities, Local Photography lesson and tour, a Cycling experience around the local area or a Cookery Course at the Award Winning Dining Room Restaurant with acclaimed chef Taher Jibet: more info - click here

Wreck To Reef...

B+B Weymouth wreck to reef press release featureRotting Naval ships in Portsmouth worth 2.5million in scrap if sunk as artificial reefs could generate £100,000,000 in VAT alone for the UK !

It’s taken three years to get all permissions in place to allow Weymouth and Portland Wreck to Reef to create a multi faceted artificial reef three miles to the east of Weymouth.  We are the only organisation to have been granted such a licence in the UK by the Marine Management Organisation.

Within Wreck to Reefs square kilometre of sea bed, permissions have been obtained for a Lobster re-stocking Reef, a Quarry Reef, a Solace Reef and the sinking of two ex-naval warships.

The lobster re-stocking reef is already a reality and was laid in March last year (2012).  Baby lobsters donated by the National Lobster Hatchery, will be released this summer.

Now all those permissions are in place, Weymouth and Portland Wreck to Reef are now looking at ways of funding the purchase of the two ships we have permissions for.  We are working on several angles, one of which is outlined below. 

We are hoping that one of our ideas will be successful, but we realise that it is essential that we now shout as loudly as we can and let, not just divers, but anyone who believes in artificial reefs know what we have achieved already and what we still have to do.

Solving a ‘local’ problem can sometimes create a vacuum, an issue in the next town, or in our case, the next coastal community.  Wreck to Reef is very mindful of this.  With support from a national level it is quite possible that in a very short period of time, those ex-naval warships that are rotting away in Portsmouth could help generate tens of millions of pounds for coastal communities from Portland Bill to Skegness.

These ships are steeped in history and have served us well.  It is not time to look at the rest of the world and finally lay these ships to rest in British waters as artificial reefs?

An artificial reef for Weymouth and Portland and a possible blue print for the whole of the UK.

Through the three year process of obtaining permissions, Weymouth and Portland Wreck to Reef have by coincidence created a new way to manage an area of sea-bed by the people for the people. 

It has been suggested that Weymouth and Portland Wreck to Reef now has a blue print that should be adopted across the whole of the United Kingdom. 

The jewel in the crown of these reef sanctuaries, is of course the once jewels of our naval history, our warships.

Our ex naval ships could be cleaned and made ready responsibly here in the UK and would help create much needed habitat for our ailing marine environments and bring decades of revenue to our coastal communities.

The UK is sadly out of step with the rest of the world with regards to giving ships as 'deeds of gifts' to any organisation.  Portugal and Thailand sunk four ships in 2012, with Portugal planning to sink another two warships this year. 

It is hoped by signing this petition you will help Wreck to Reef change the British Governments view.

thumbThe B+B Weymouth has become one of the first bed and breakfasts in Weymouth and Portland to become an official accommodation provider to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games’ Sailing Event.

The B+B positioned prominently on the seafront by the Kings’ Statue has contracted 50% of its rooms to LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games) for three weeks prior to the Olympic period starting in the July right through to the end of the Paralympic Games in the September 2012.

"Since receiving written approval of the Accommodation Agreement, we have already picked up incremental bookings from individuals visiting the area on Olympic Games business" says Sue Bertram, Sales Director of the B+B.
